Tortfontaine is a charming village set in rolling farms and woodlands about 7km south of the local market town of Hesdin. The river Authie, which forms the boundary between Pas de Calais and Somme is a further kilometer south.  Some idea of the surrounding countryside can be obtained by the rear views from the house and the working farm across the road from the cottage. The cottage is located about 30km from the coast and the lovely costal town of Le Touquet is less than a 40 minute drive away.

The cottage itself is a single story 3 bedroom bungalow (one double, two twin - comfortably sleeps 8 people) with a sofa-bed in the smaller reception room and has recently been completely redecorated internally.  The house has a very large main room which comfortably seats eight and six for dining and contains a wood-burning stove, TV, Video and CD/Radio player.  The kitchen is fully functional with 4-ring gas hob and oven, microwave, toaster etc and full cupboards of crockery and cutlery.

The Garden is equipped with a barbeque and we would appreciate it if any charcoal used was replaced.  There is also a large lean-to, between kitchen and outbuildings, whilst not 100% waterproof will offer protection for short showers

Hesdin, the local town, has two large supermarkets and is equipped with most shops you will need.  The village of Douriez has a Bakery that is open all week and until midday on Sunday which is handy if you run out of milk or bread etc.

There is a great choice of restaurants both locally in the villages and in Hesdin.  On the Place des Armes in Hesdin town center there are 4 and Manhattan is the smartest and can be very pleasant outside on a sunny day.  By far the most welcoming is the Globe - within a few days you will be considered part of the set and kissed on both cheeks!  Our Favourite restaurant is on the crossroads of nearby Saulchoy, here a hearty bourgeois five course meal will only cost around €23.

Hesdin has a tourist office located in the town hall on Place des Armes, they are very helpful and speak good English.

Please note: A €50 Cleaning and management charge will need to be paid locally and a £100 deposit will be payable upon booking and will be deducted from the final payment.

Rates quoted are Saturday - Saturday although split weeks and long weekends can be arranged depending on availability.
